GI Ralph Stevenson (Clift) befriends the lost and nearly hopeless boy, planning to take him back to the United States as there is very little chance that his mother survived the death camp. But she is alive and refuses to believe that her missing son is dead. This story, part documentary, part drama, is based on true events and on Europe's Children, the book of photographs by Therese Bonney.
